Eagles HC Nick Sirianni weighs in on sitting key starters vs. Giants
Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles end their 2023 regular season with a trip to New Jersey to take on the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

Win or lose, the Eagles' season isn't over as they'll get ready for the NFL playoffs.

For now, it's looking like they'll head into the post-season as the No. 5 seed and play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild-card round.

But there's also a chance they clinch the NFC East title and No. 2 seed.

First, the Eagles will need to win their matchup against the Giants and then hope the Dallas Cowboys fall to a devastating Washington Commanders team on the road.

Will the Eagles sit some key players for their season finale or will they play everyone for a better shot at beating the Giants?

Eagles' head coach Nick Sirianni is still thinking about it.

“Obviously, we try to think through everything at all times,” he said on Monday. “We’re going to do whatever we need to do to win this game, but that’s still a consideration because we think through all those different things.

“We understand we are at the mercy of another team to win the division, all those different things, but you can’t control that (Cowboys-Commanders) game. There are so many different things you can’t control in there, so you have to do what you have to do to win this game.”

One key player that we can go ahead and count out is starting wide receiver DeVonta Smith.

Smith sustained a mild ankle sprain in the Eagles's loss to the Arizona Cardinals on New Year's Eve and he left the locker room on crutches and in a boot.

Smith has yet to miss a game in his career, but it would be silly for him to risk injuring himself even further ahead of playoffs where he'll matter most.
