The Philadelphia Eagles entered the 2025 season as defending Super Bowl champions, but their bid to repeat fell short in the postseason after a wild card loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Philadelphia’s offense, once a top-10 unit, experienced a notable regression throughout the regular season, struggling to consistently produce explosive plays despite a roster loaded with weapons.
The Eagles averaged 311.2 total yards per game, a mark that ranked 24th in the NFL, and scored 22.3 points per game, placing them 19th in the league. Philadelphia’s potent mix of pass and run production earned the franchise its second Super Bowl title last season. But the Eagles couldn’t recreate that balance in 2025, particularly in the passing game, which ranked 23rd in yards per game and led to frustration from fans.
As a result, the Eagles’ front office made major moves following their playoff exit. Offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo was dismissed after one season as play-caller, following growing criticism of predictability and stalled drives. Sirianni’s staff then turned to the Green Bay Packers ’ coaching tree, hiring quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion as their new offensive coordinator in late January.
Now, the Eagles are filling out the offensive staff under Mannion, bringing in another Packers coach. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, Philadelphia is hiring Ryan Mahaffey as Run Game Coordinator and Tight Ends coach, adding a rising assistant from the Packers’ staff to bolster the offensive coaching room.

Mahaffey brings a diverse background to the role. After starting his coaching career in college, he joined the Packers in 2021 and has since worked in quality control, as an assistant offensive line coach, and most recently as wide receivers coach.
Mahaffey’s addition is expected to complement Mannion’s vision of an offense that better balances run and pass concepts while giving players like Jalen Hurts , A.J. Brown and Saquon Barkley the support and schematic creativity needed to unlock more consistent playmaking. After a season defined by inconsistency and rankings well below expectations on offense, the Eagles hope this revamped staff can spark improvement and help sustain their competitive window in 2026.
