The Philadelphia Eagles lost another key contributor during their 19-17 Week 5 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, as linebacker Jalyx Hunt exited the game late in the first half with an apparent ankle injury.
Hunt didn’t return to the game, and his status moving forward is now a question mark. Hunt isn’t expected to play in Week 6 against the Carolina Panthers, as Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said it would be “pretty miraculous” if he did.
But, Hunt himself isn’t expecting the injury to sideline him for too long. During an appearance on Philadelphia radio, Hunt provided a promising update on his status, though he declined to provide a return timetable.
“No timetable. . . It’s not as bad as they thought it was going to be, based on how it looked,” Hunt said.
“I heal pretty fast. We’re just going to see. Just going to see, get out there and get moving. I feel comfortable moving, which is really exciting for me because I was scared of that. My rookie year, I played the whole season with a high ankle that was actually worse than this high ankle, but this just has a little bit more to it.”
Obviously the Eagles won’t want to rush Hunt back, but the quicker he can get back out on the field the better for Philadelphia. On the season so far, Hunt has tallied 15 combined tackles, four QB hits, two passes defended and one tackle for a loss.
Hunt isn’t the only Eagles linebacker dealing with an injury issue. Jonathan Greenard is dealing with an ankle injury that held him out of the game against Jacksonville in Week 5. At this point, it remains to be seen if he’ll play against Carolina in Week 6, but Fangio is hopeful that he’ll be able to do.
“Hopefully he’ll be ready to go this week,” Fangio said of Greenard. “But we gotta see.”
Greenard has played in just two of five games for the Eagles so far this season. He also missed the first two games of the campaign due to a pectoral strain. He’s tallied just one tackle, one QB hit and one forced fumble on the current campaign. His status for the game against Carolina will be something to keep an eye on.
