The Philadelphia Eagles would love to keep defensive lineman Javon Hargrave, but with nine free agents on defense and limited cap space, that's unlikely.
Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport projects Hargrave will land in Seattle, where he'll get a three-year, $61.2 million contract with more than $40 million guaranteed. That’s quite a deal. Among interior defensive linemen, only the Rams' Aaron Donald and Giants' Leonard Williams have more guaranteed money left on their contracts.
Free agency begins March 15.
Seattle has money to spend and a need at the position. The Seahawks gave up the eighth-most points in 2022, and only two teams allowed more rushing yards. With just over $24 million available, Seattle has the eighth-most cap space among NFL teams.
According to Spotrac, Hargrave’s market value is a three-year deal worth just over $60 million. Since joining Philadelphia in 2020, the seven-year veteran has 161 tackles, 23 sacks and two forced fumbles. His 37 solo tackles and 11 sacks last season were both career highs.

According to Hargrave, the team is in good hands with his potential replacement, Jordan Davis.
Davis played sparingly as a rookie in 2022 but impressed. In an interview with NFL Network’s James Palmer, Hargrave gushed about Davis's freakish size (6-foot-3, 335 pounds) and ability, adding that the rookie “doesn’t even understand some of the amazing things he does in practice.”
He’ll have big shoes to fill when Hargrave leaves, but with three years left on his rookie deal and a base salary of just over $1 million for 2023, it’s a chance Philadelphia must take.
