Eagles, Jordan Mailata Agree to Three-year Deal

The Philadelphia Eagles and left tackle Jordan Mailata agree to a deal on Thursday for a three-year contract extension worth $66 million. According to a report from ESPN, the contract includes $48 million guaranteed and a $20 million signing bonus.

While the Eagles confirmed Mailata’s extension, they opted not to disclose the financial details.

This agreement binds Mailata to Philadelphia until the end of the 2028 season. With an average annual salary of $22 million, Mailata ranks among the NFL’s highest-paid offensive tackles, trailing only Laremy Tunsil, Trent Williams, and Andrew Thomas.

Mailata’s Remarkable Journey

Mailata, 27, hails from Australia and transitioned from rugby to football upon arriving in the United States in January 2018 to train at IMG Academy in Florida. Despite his limited football knowledge, the Eagles took a chance on the 6-foot-8, 365-pound Mailata just over three months later, drafting him in the seventh round.

Since then, Mailata’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable. He earned a spot in the starting lineup in 2020 and has maintained his position as the starting left tackle ever since. A vital member of one of the NFL’s top offensive lines, Mailata appeared in all 17 games last season, boasting an impressive 80% run block win rate, second only to teammate Lane Johnson.

This marks Mailata’s third contract extension with the Eagles, following a three-year, $64 million agreement reached in 2021.

Eagles’ Offensive Line Dynamics

Heading into the upcoming season, the Eagles are bringing back four starters from the previous year: Mailata, Johnson, Landon Dickerson and Cam Jurgens. Dickerson recently secured the title of the highest-paid guard in NFL history with a four-year extension worth up to $87 million. With All-Pro center Jason Kelce retiring, Jurgens is expected to transition from right guard to center, creating an opening at right guard.

Philadelphia led the league in run block win rate at 77% in 2023 and ranked seventh in pass block win rate at 63%.
