Former Philadelphia Eagles Wide Receiver DeSean Jackson is making a bold move into the collegiate coaching ranks, as Delaware State University is finalizing an agreement to make him their next coach, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel.

Jackson, 38, who retired from the NFL in 2023 after a decorated 15-year career, recently completed an on-campus interview with the Hornets. Sources indicate to ESPN that the agreement is expected to be finalized soon, marking Jackson's first coaching position at the collegiate level.

The move to Delaware State fulfills what Thamel reports has been a longtime dream for Jackson to coach at a Historically Black College and University (HBCU). The former three-time Pro Bowler spent 2024 gaining coaching experience as an assistant at Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach, California.

Jackson joins an increasingly interesting landscape in college football, where other NFL legends have recently transitioned to coaching. Bill Belichick, Deion Sanders and Michael Vick have all taken positions in the college ranks, bringing star power and NFL experience to the collegiate game.

The new Delaware State coach brings an impressive playing resume to Dover. Jackson concluded his NFL career with the Baltimore Ravens in 2022, where he appeared in seven games, recording nine receptions for 153 yards. His career statistics stand at 641 catches for 11,263 yards and 66 total touchdowns, establishing him as one of the most explosive deep threats of his era.

Before his NFL success, Jackson was a standout at the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned All-America honors in 2006. During his collegiate career, he amassed 162 receptions for 2,423 yards and 23 total touchdowns, displaying the playmaking ability that would become his trademark in the professional ranks.

Jackson inherits a program in need of rebuilding, as the Hornets struggled through a difficult 1-11 campaign in 2024. His hiring represents a significant commitment from Delaware State to elevate their football program, bringing in a high-profile name with extensive experience at football's highest level.
