Eagles' legends come out shining as part of an All-Quarter-Century team

As the NFL embarks on its 25th season in the new millennium, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox took to his platform to outline the NFL's "All-Quarter-Century Team".

Knox's team took into account the opinions of more than a dozen NFL experts, editors, and analysts, who voted in a Heisman-like ballot. The ballot distributed three points for a first-team vote, two points for a second-team vote, and one point for a third-team vote, with the top three vote-getters being named to the team. Per Knox, any player who took the field since 2000 was eligible, though only their production in the new millennium was taken into account.

Who made the cut on the All-Century team from the Eagles?

The team at Bleacher Report bestowed the honor on five Eagles players. Offensive linemen Lane Johnson and Jason Kelce were named to the team along with safety Brian Dawkins, plus the controversial Eagle Terrell Owens. Ndamukong Suh also received the honor.

Jason Kelce's fame off the field may outweigh his accomplishments from 2011 to 2023. Thought to be undersized, Kelce became one of the NFL's best centers during his time. Kelce earned seven Pro Bowls, six All-Pro honors, and a Super Bowl victory in 2017, while starting 193 regular-season games, along with 12 postseason starts. Not bad for an overlooked sixth-round pick who started his career as a walk-on running back at Cincinnati. Bleacher Report gave Kelce first-team honors, with Jeff Saturday and Kevin Mawae following behind him, respectively.

Lane Johnson may be the opposite of Kelce. Johnson was a first-round pick in 2013 out of Oklahoma who transitioned from quarterback/tight end at Kilgore College (JuCo). Johnson has consistently been one of the NFL's best overall tackles, earning the first-team honor for right tackle. Johnson has continued to add to his resume. He's earned six Pro Bowls, several All-Pro honors, and two Super Bowl championships since 2013, while appearing in 158 regular season games. Johnson recently reworked his contract and may strengthen his claim on his position with the next season or two. Willie Anderson and Tristan Wirfs followed behind Johnson, respectively.

One of the best to do it, Terrell Owens, spent only two seasons in Philadelphia (2004-2005) before being jettisoned to Dallas. Despite appearing in 21 games, Owens totaled 124 receptions and almost 2,000 receiving yards with the Eagles to go along with 20 touchdowns. In the Eagles' 2004 Super Bowl, despite dealing with a fractured fibula and a high ankle sprain, Owens managed to record nine receptions for 122 yards in their loss. While his Eagles tenure was controversial, there is no doubt that "T.O." was in a class above, earning second-team honors.

Many younger fans may not remember, but before there was the Legion of Boom, there was "Weapon X". Brian Dawkins spent 13 seasons with the Eagles, earning seven Pro Bowls in Philadelphia (nine total) and four of his five All-Pro honors. Dawkins was one of the most dynamic safeties in the NFL, even earning a Super Bowl with the team as an administrator in 2017. He was enshrined in the NFL Hall of Fame in 2018.

While his time in Philadelphia was brief, Ndamukong Suh was one of the NFL's most dynamic and aggressive interior defensive linemen from 2010 to 2018. Suh recorded 71.5 sacks from the interior, and added some much-needed depth in 2022 as a part of the Eagles' defensive line rotation during their Super Bowl run. Suh officially retired in July, but should find his way in Canton on his first ballot soon.

While several Eagles players were honored, it is worth noting that running back LeSean McCoy and kicker David Akers were not included on Bleacher Report's list.
