Eagles make a wave of roster moves while players report to NFL training camp

As the Philadelphia Eagles prepare to kick off Day 1 of training camp practice on Wednesday, the team made a series of roster moves to fine-tune the lineup.

First, they signed defensive end Ogbonnia Okoronkwo and defensive Jacob Sykes. And to make room for these two on the 90-man roster, the Eagles waived defensive end KJ Henry and running back Lew Nichols.

We’ve already covered Okoronkwo in another article, as he deserved some extra attention. All fans need to know is that he’s a valuable depth piece who has continued to play well, even at 30 years old.

As for Sykes, he comes to Philly after playing for the San Antonio Brahmas in the United Football League. Before entering the league, Sykes began his college career at Harvard before transferring to UCLA. He went undrafted in 2023 and signed with the Seattle Seahawks as a free agent for a short stint.

The good news for both Sykes is that he has a familiar face in Philly. Sykes had previously crossed paths with Eagles senior defensive assistant/defensive line coach Clint Hurtt. The two were both in Seattle during the 2023 NFL offseason, when Hurtt was serving as the Seahawks’ defensive coordinator.

These additions are part of the Eagles’ never-ending plan to bring in fresh talent to give players even more competition throughout training camp.

And for the two players the Eagles lost, they're not going to miss much in Henry and Nichols after they spent much of last season on the practice squad.
