The Philadelphia Eagles have traded defensive tackle Thomas Booker to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for cornerback Jakorian Bennett.

BREAKING: Eagles Make Rare Player-For-Player Trade

The addition of Bennett is interesting, considering the current battle going on for the starting outside cornerback job. Kelee Ringo and Adoree Jackson have been competing for that starting role in training camp, but Bennett could now also push for that starting job. Bennett, a 2023 4th-round pick out of the University of Maryland, has appeared in 24 games and started 11 for the Raiders over the last two seasons. He has 11 passes defended and has not recorded an interception or forced fumble. Coincidentally, Bennett was selected directly in front of Ringo in that draft, and now the two are on the same team in the same position group.

Booker will be the player the Eagles are giving up to make this trade happen. Booker, a 2022 5th-round draft pick of the Houston Texans, was signed by the Eagles in August of 2023. While he did not appear in any games during the 2023 season, he appeared in all 17 games last season, recording one sack and one pass defended. Booker looks to be a casualty of the Eagles’ defensive line depth. Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Moro Ojomo, and Ty Robinson were all firmly ahead of him in that regard. This also bodes well for Byron Young and undrafted free agent Gabe Hall. The Eagles likely don’t make this move if they aren’t comfortable with the current depth at that position. The Eagles started the 2024 season with 6 defensive tackles on the roster. Roster construction varies from year to year, but this is an encouraging sign for these players, as their odds of making the team have increased with this move.
