Eagles Make Staff Move After Super Bowl Season

Following a Super Bowl season and re-signing their  head coach to a long-term extension on Monday, the Philadelphia Eagles have brought a familiar face back into their organization.

Former New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas has been appointed to a senior scouting role with his former employer, per the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Douglas, 48, served as Philadelphia's vice president of player personnel from 2016 to 2019. He helped create the city’s first Super Bowl-winning team, built around a strong defense and a rush-first offense centered around former starting quarterback Carson Wentz.

The team went 13-3 with Wentz at the helm, before he went down with a torn ACL, and backup Nick Foles was called on to lead the Eagles to victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII.

After four successful seasons in Philadelphia, the Jets decided to take a chance on Douglas in 2019. He spent five and a half seasons in New York, where he went on an unsuccessful 30-64 run. In Douglas' tenure with the Jets, he never had a winning record or saw the postseason.

He was relieved of his duties last November following a disappointing 3-8 start to his fifth season. However, now that Douglas is back in Philadelphia, he may be able to succeed in a role with which he is quite familiar.

Douglas started in the league as a scout for the Baltimore Ravens in 2000 and was involved in two Super Bowl runs during his 14-year tenure in Baltimore. Douglas also spent a season with the Chicago Bears in 2015 as the director of college scouting before heading to Philadelphia.

Now that Douglas is back in a comfortable role, he may be able to attract more talent toward the defending Super Bowl champions' roster.
