A.J. Brown has gone on the record to say that he's not happy with the Philadelphia Eagles.
However, the team has been reluctant to move him, citing that it is not in the business of losing great players. Multiple teams have inquired about his availability early in the offseason. Nevertheless, as The Athletic insider Dianna Russini pointed out, that's not going to change soon.
In a recent appearance on SPORTSRADIO 94WIP, Russini argued that the Eagles would only consider trading their star wideout after June 1.
"It doesn’t make sense for either side. There was some early buzz that (Eagles GM) Howie might explore it—but that idea was shut down fast," Russini said.
Moving on from Brown now would result in a $40 million dead-cap hit for the Eagles, so they have no incentive to do so. That number drops by more than half after June 1.
The Eagles should be just fine by playing the waiting game. They probably hope to convince Brown to stay with their offseason moves and additions in the NFL Draft. New offensive coordinator Sean Mannion might give them a more pass-happy offense, which would give him the type of involvement he wants.
That said, Brown has proved that he won't hesitate to make things awkward if he's not comfortable. They need to tread carefully and make sure to stay in his good graces. If that's not the case, they still need to wait a couple of months before moving on from him.
