The Philadelphia Eagles' offense is nearly perfect going into the 2025 season, with the only question entering training camp being who will start at right guard. That's why there are two guards who are being named as X-factors for the Eagles in 2025.
ESPN NFL analyst Seth Walder worked with Mike Clay and Aaron Schatz on an article ranking the best rosters in the NFL. They all ranked the Eagles second, behind the Baltimore Ravens. Walder named two X-factors that will impact the Eagles in 2025: Tyler Steen and/or Kenyon Green.
"Last year's offensive line reclamation project, Mekhi Becton, left in free agency (yielding a projected fifth-round compensatory pick for the Eagles in 2026, per OverTheCap.com). But questions remain. Who will fill his void at right guard? Can offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland continue to work his magic? If the answer to the latter question is "yes," then Philadelphia should have a stout line across the board yet again."
Steen is going into training camp as the projected starter, and it seems like most people expect him to run with the job. He got a vote of confidence from his center, Cam Jurgens, last month, so it appears that it is Steen's job to lose.
It honestly makes the most sense as Steen has two years under Eagles offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland, as he's been developing for this moment. Steen has started three of his 28 career games and knows what is expected on the offensive line.
On the other hand, Green had not been the guy everyone thought he would be when the Houston Texans selected him in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He only started nine of 12 games last year after missing all of 2023 with a shoulder injury. Green graded horribly by Pro Football Focus in 2024 with a 38.6 overall grade, ranking 132 out of 136 guards.
There really isn't much of a discussion about the starting right guard position, as some might think. Steen is most likely going to start. Walder was correct that he is an X-factor as Becton was great at that position and needs Steen to play at that same level in 2025.
What many in the media might not be aware of is that Green was actually working out with the third team during offseason workouts. He might actually be on the hot seat and might not make the 53-man roster.
Eagles fans would be more comfortable with Steen stepping in unless Green completely turns it around in training camp.
