Eagles' Nick Sirianni keeps his reaction to failed Tush Push ban surprisingly humble

The NFL ultimately decided not to ban the "Tush Push" last month.

Despite concerns from some coaches and teams about player safety and the play’s overwhelming effectiveness in short-yardage situations, the competition committee ultimately chose not to make any rule changes.

Supporters defended the move, calling the play a valid strategic weapon and arguing that it’s up to defenses to adjust, not the league to intervene.

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni addressed the outcome publicly for the first time during mandatory minicamp, and despite his reputation for talking trash, he kept things surprisingly humble.

"Yeah, it passed and didn’t want to go too much past that and were ready to be able to continue to grow that play," Sirianni said. "Excited about being able to continue to grow that play. We have a lot of work to do to continue that success."

Sirianni stressed that, despite how effortless it might look, the Tush Push is far from easy for his team to execute.

"It just doesn’t happen," Sirianni said. The same work that we needed to put into it last year, we’ll even have to be better because we know teams are going to focus on it to try to stop it and we’ll even have to be better at how we coach it and how we perform it and how we execute. So that’s really try not to focus too much on things that I can’t control and only focus on the things that you can. That’s our process right now to think about the ways that we’re going to get to get better at running that play and the compliments that come off of it."

With defenses now making it a top priority to stop the Tush Push, Sirianni knows the Eagles have to be even sharper this year. That means fine-tuning how they coach it, how they run it, and how they build off it for every single year.
