Eagles’ Nick Sirianni Reveals A.J. Brown Update Before Giants Game

The Philadelphia Eagles are 5-2, but they're still not operating at their full potential. Three-time Pro Bowl wideout A.J. Brown is tied for 26th in the NFL with 395 receiving yards through seven games this season, behind the pace he's been on over the last three years.

The Ole Miss Rebels product notched 1,079 yards in just 13 games in 2024, averaging 83 yards per contest. He had similar averages in 2022 (88) and 2023 (85.6), when he recorded 1,496 and 1,456 yards over 17 games in each campaign, respectively.

However, Brown is averaging just 56.4 yards a game this season. On the bright side, the 28-year-old tallied four catches for 121 yards and two touchdowns against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 7, 10 days after catching six passes for 80 yards against the New York Giants in Week 6.

That was the first time that Brown totaled 50-plus yards in two consecutive games this season. Unfortunately for the 6-foot-1, 226-pounder, he's now dealing with a hamstring injury ahead of Sunday's rematch with the Giants, per Eliot Shorr-Parks of Sports Radio 94 WIP Philadelphia.

"A.J. Brown has missed practice every day this week with a hamstring injury. Eagles injury report will be out later today," he reported. "[Head coach Nick] Sirianni did say earlier A.J. could play vs. Giants without practicing."

New York upset Philadelphia 34-17 on "Thursday Night Football" in the last meeting, so missing Brown in the rematch would put more pressure on the latter team as it tries to avoid a second straight loss to a losing club. The Giants are 2-5.

Eagles Have Options Beyond A.J. Brown

If Brown is held out or plays at less than full strength, Philadelphia could try to get star running back Saquon Barkley going. The 2024 NFL Offensive Player of the Year is averaging just 3.3 yards per carry and has yet to record 100 scrimmage yards in a game this season.

Barkley's usage is still high, as he ranks third in the NFL with 113 carries. But Philadelphia's offensive line hasn't blocked well enough; Barkley is just 32nd with 1.8 yards before contact per attempt, via Pro Football Reference. If the team gets an early lead, it could use a power-run scheme to get the 28-year-old into space.

The Eagles may also lean on wide receiver DeVonta Smith, who ranks ninth with 504 receiving yards. Additionally, they have tight end Dallas Goedert, who's second at his position with five receiving touchdowns, per FantasyPros.

Philadelphia will host New York at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday. The game will be broadcast on Fox.
