Eagles O-Line Depth Issues: Good-Jones A 'Good' Answer?

The Philadelphia Eagles ended their exhibition schedule with yet another loss and completed the preseason with an 0-1-2 record. Of course, none of that matters. What does matter, is that they're relatively healthy entering the regular season and a Week 1 matchup against the New England Patriots on the road on Sept. 10.

After a 14-3 campaign last year and a disappointing Super Bowl LVII loss, Philadelphia improved its roster for this season. With the core starters all in place, there's room to improve depth, especially along the offensive line.

The Eagles could boast one of the best offensive line starting units in the league this season, but they lack depth. In January, Philly signed Julian Good-Jones to a reserve/futures contract. Reserve/future contracts are a way for NFL teams to retain players during an offseason without officially placing them under contract until the start of the following league season.

Good-Jones is familiar with the Eagles. After going undrafted out of Iowa State in 2020, he went through training camp with Philadelphia before being cut. He was back with the team briefly last November. He's a good fit for Philly as he can move between playing guard or center. Versatility, of course, makes a player more valuable to a team.

Good-Jones seems like a good fit (pun intended) for the Eagles, both because of his familiarity with the offensive system and because of his ability to play two positions along the offensive line.

Whether or not he gets a chance to help the Eagles back to the playoffs this season remains to be seen.
