The Philadelphia Eagles’ offense has stuttered their way into the 2025 season, but none of that matters much while their record says 2-0.
Jalen Hurts has recorded 253 passing yards over two games, with zero passing touchdowns. He is the only actively playing quarterback in the league who hasn’t done so.
There were bound to be some growing pains after the Philadelphia Eagles hired a new offensive coordinator, Kevin Patullo, to replace Kellen Moore in the offseason.
Moore left to become the head coach of the New Orleans Saints after their Super Bowl triumph, with Patullo promoted from pass game coordinator after he departed.
The fact that he was the passing game coordinator is what has shocked fans and media, with star wide receivers like AJ Brown now having very little effective usage. However, it’s not the most startling thing missing from the offense.
Kevin Patullo‘s second-ever game as an NFL offensive coordinator came against the Kansas City Chiefs, known for their strong defense despite the blowout in the Super Bowl just eight months earlier.
It feels as if the offense is going to get better with time, but there has been one thing missing that has surprised the media and fans the most.
Eagles reporter for the Philadelphia Inquirer, Jeff McLane, asked Patullo about the ‘lack of designed runs and zone read keeps for Jalen Hurts.’
Patullo explained that the way the opposition was defending, the Dallas Cowboys and the Chiefs so far, weren’t allowing for the plays to be called.
Asked #Eagles OC Kevin Patullo about the lack of designed QB runs and zone read keeps for Jalen Hurts. Said just haven’t gotten to or because of how they’re being defended.

He then reportedly answered: “Don’t worry, they’re coming.”
After Jalen Hurts’ scrambles sealed the Eagles’ win against the Cowboys in Week 1, his rushing usage was just as limited as his passing usage in Week 2.
Hurts recorded 101 passing yards while only gaining 15 on the ground from nine carries. His one touchdown came via the Eagles’ notorious ‘tush push’.
Unfortunately for the rest of the NFL, the Philadelphia Eagles are 2-0 with an offense that has only recorded 530 yards over two games.
For context, the Buffalo Bills’ epic comeback over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1 saw the Bills’ offense register 497 total yards, while the Ravens had 432.
While that was an extraordinary game, it shows how the Eagles have come away from being fairly ineffective on offense and beaten two very strong opponents.
It is inevitable that the only way is up for Patullo’s offense, having such incredible weapons as NFL-record seeking RB Saquon Barkley, Hurts, WRs A.J. Brown, Devonta Smith, and more.
The Eagles face a tough test against the Los Angeles Rams next, who have only faced struggling offenses in the Houston Texans and the Tennessee Titans so far. The Eagles should be a different type of test if Patullo’s vow comes to fruition.
