Eagles players stick up for Vic Fangio amid Dolphins backlash
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Philadelphia Eagles' new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has received some brutal reviews for his coaching style from his former players since leaving the Miami Dolphins.

In February, Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey threw a shot at Fangio, saying he underutilized players.

And just this week Miami safety Jevon Holland went viral for telling reporters that Fangio didn't connect well with his players.

"A complete 180," Holland when asked to compare Dolphins new defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver to Fangio.  “Actually, ‘Weav’ is super dope, man. Like as a person, as an ex-player, as a coach. You can just feel he understands where we’re coming from. He wants to hear us in our input on the defense and then is able to put that into how the defense is called and how the defense is taught. So now he’s great, man.

"I just think that it’s the fact that he’s a good person makes a difference."

Eagles Players Love Vic Fangio

Eagles players can't relate to what some Dolphins players are saying about Fangio.

Following Wednesday's voluntary OTA practice, defensive tackle Jalen Carter was asked his thoughts on Fangio's coaching style so far and raved about him.

"I love Vic, man," Carter said with a big smile. "Old school man, he's fun to talk to. He's a good coach. I heard a lot of good news about him because I was in Miami working out, so I had a couple of Miami players out there and I was talking to them. I heard a lot of good news, they're saying a lot of good stuff."

Eagles cornerback Darius Slay also only had positive things to say about Fangio's old-school ways.

"It's going to be great," Slay said. If you've been looking, our team has always been built on leadership and guys that are willing to go out for the other guys. So, I think he's a guy that's just going to build the team up. Come here with great energy. He's been a guy that's been in the room with a lot of great vets, a lot of coaches. Not one time, since I've been here as an Eagles has somebody had something bad or negative to say about a DC because we always know, go hard for him. It doesn't matter who it is because we want to win.

"I don't know what happened over there," Slay said. "But from my point of view over here, he's a great dude. I've been hearing great things about him because I used to watch Aqib Talib and all them guys, and corners that played under his system, they always talking highly on him."
