Carson Wentz releases strong statement on death of George Floyd

As the United States continues to react to the tragic death of George Floyd in Minnesota, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz became the latest athlete to speak out.

On Monday, George Floyd died while in the custody of the Minneapolis Police Department. Since the graphic video of Floyd’s death was released, professional athletes from across the country have weighed in on the tragedy.

In a statement released on Thursday, Wentz used his platform to release a statement on Floyd’s death. In the message, the 27-year-old opened up about the heartbreaking incident, offering his prayers to those impacted by it and encouraging everyone to place greater value on human life.

Wentz cited his faith and the importance of valuing each others’ lives, while also recognizing he is unable to relate to the experiences of the black community.

Athletes from across the United States have weighed in on Floyd’s death. We have also seen coaches in Minnesota’s community, including Timberwolves coach Ryan Saunders and Twins manager Rocco Baldelli speaking out on the matter.

Floyd’s death occurred on Monday in Minneapolis and was captured in a video that showed an officer kneeling on Floyd’s neck as he laid on the ground. Shortly after the video was released, the Minneapolis Police Department announced the four officers involved were fired.

On Thursday night, prosecutors in Minnesota announced they are investigating the case against the officers involved.
