Eagles QB Gardner Minshew gives Mike Leach eulogy

Philadelphia Eagles backup quarterback Gardner Minshew is potentially looking at an extra busy week ahead of Christmas on Sunday.

Minshew played two seasons at East Carolina before transferring to Mike Leach's Washington State program for his senior campaign in 2018. Minshew led the NCAA in pass attempts (662) and pass completions (468) that year and paced the Pac-12 in completion percentage (70.2), passing yards (4,779) and passing touchdowns (38) as well.

He added 13 carries for 58 yards and four touchdowns. Minshew won that year's Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year and finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting.

Minshew and Leach — who passed away last week — helped lead the Cougars to an 11-2 record and a victory over Iowa State in the Alamo Bowl in 2018.

The 26-year-old signal-caller could be in line for his first start of the 2022 season on Saturday against the Dallas Cowboys after starter Jalen Hurts hurt his shoulder during the Eagles' Week 15 win versus the Chicago Bears. Minshew's gone just 2-for-4 for 34 passing yards this year but went 41-for-60 with 439 passing yards, four touchdowns and one interception across four games (two starts) during his first campaign with Philadelphia in 2021.
