Eagles RB Saquon Barkley shares what 'struck' him during first week of OTAs
Kyle Ross-USA TODAY Sports

Philadelphia Eagles' new running back Saquon Barkley and Jalen Hurts put on a show for media members in attendance during Wednesday's OTAs.

Barkley was not only taking handoffs but also catching passes from Hurts.

With his dual-threat abilities, Barkley is going to be a major threat in this Eagles offense.

And it officially hit him this week that he's not the only weapon that will make this team tough to beat this upcoming season.

"Biggest thing that struck me is my first 7-on-7 huddle you see A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert, and Jalen Hurts. It's not a bad group to be out there with," Barkley told reporters following practice. "That's not even including the offensive linemen."

While Barkley won't have Jason Kelce blocking for him, he still gets to work alongside some of the league's other best blockers in Lane Johnson, Jordan Mailata, and Landon Dickerson, which is more than enough to set him and the others up for success in 2024.

Barkley isn't thinking about the numbers he's going to put up this fall. For now, it's all about getting to know his teammates and learning a new system under new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.

"We're all just coming in, buying in, trying to learn the playbook, learning the system, trying to get better each day," Barkley said. "You know there is a lot of talent, a lot of talent before I got here. I feel I can only add to that. At the same time, you can't look too far. That's the beauty of it. That's the beauty of coming in every single day, working with each other, pushing each other."

When Barkley isn't on the field or at the facility, he says he's bonding with his teammates over a bite to eat every chance he gets.

And since his family is still making the move from New Jersey to Philly, Barkley has been spending the majority of his free time golfing with backup QBs Will Grier and Kenny Pickett.

"I'm excited to be here with this team," Barkley said. "I feel like we can do something special. That's a ways, ways away, so just continue to come in one day at a time and try to get better."
