Last season was memorable for the Philadelphia Eagles as they captured their second Super Bowl title in franchise history, thanks to a fully loaded roster.
There were questions about the offense, including whether Saquon Barkley could stay healthy and whether Cam Jurgens could replace future Hall of Famer Jason Kelce. The offense fell apart at the end of the 2023 season, and Kellen Moore was brought in to fix the unit as the new offensive coordinator.
Despite the slow start, the offense in Philadelphia became one of the best in the NFL in 2024 and helped the team win it all. Most starters are back for the 2025 season, but some are not so high on this offensive unit.
Bleacher Report writer Brent Sobleski ranked all 32 NFL teams' offenses. Sobleski placed the Eagles 15th in the league. His concerns are whether Barkley can handle another heavy load and whether they can replace Mekhi Becton.
"The dreaded Super Bowl hangover seems inevitable for the Philadelphia Eagles, particularly for running back Saquon Barkley.
Barkley set an NFL record last season with 2,504 combined rushing yards between the regular season and playoffs. He also had 482 touches throughout the championship-winning campaign. The Eagles rewarded Barkley with a two-year contract extension with $41.2 million in new money.
Historically, running backs are known to take a step back the season after a 400-touch season. While the drop-off may not be dramatic, the Eagles will try to protect Barkley and probably pull back on his workload to some degree, hence the flier general manager Howie Roseman took when bringing in AJ Dillon, who missed the entirety of the 2024 season with a neck injury.
As for the rest of the offense, it remains intact, except the free-agent loss of right guard Mekhi Becton. Tyler Steen and Kenyon Green will compete to fill that opening.
Philadelphia's offense still has AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith on the outside, but this team has always been about dominating in the trenches and physically outmuscling opponents, which doesn't necessarily lead to huge offensive statistics."
Last year, the Eagles ranked eighth in the league in total offense, averaging 367.2 yards per game. The strength of this unit was in the running game as they were second in rushing yards with 179.3 yards per game.
During the postseason, Philadelphia's 145 points through four playoff games were an NFL record, and it averaged 36.3 points per game. Barkley broke the rushing record for most yards in NFL history during the regular season and postseason with 2,504.
Becton is the only starter from last year's Super Bowl team not back, which shouldn't concern many. Jurgens was a first-time starter in 2024, earning a Pro Bowl selection and a contract extension. Whether Green or Steen starts at right guard, Eagles offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland is one of the best in history and can develop one of them into a top-performing guard.
Barkley could see less carries as the Eagles take the workload off of him, but he can contribute just as much in the passing game. Dillon can help on short yard situations while Barkley is the home run hitter.
It's puzzling to see the Eagles so low on the list when they have proven to be one of the best. With no significant changes outside the coordinator, Philadelphia should have no problems putting up points.
