Dameon Pierce’s short-lived tenure with the Philadelphia Eagles has officially come to an end. After initially placing the veteran running back on injured reserve, Philadelphia has now decided to part ways with him through an injury settlement.

According to NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Dave Zangaro, the Eagles reached an injury settlement with Pierce on Friday, officially releasing him from injured reserve and allowing him to become a free agent.

“Per the NFL’s transaction wire: The Eagles reached an injury settlement with Dameon Pierce so he’s off IR and is now a free agent,” Zangaro wrote.

Philadelphia’s decision comes after Pierce struggled to establish himself as a reliable contributor in the team’s backfield. Despite receiving an opportunity amid the Eagles’ growing injury concerns at the running back position, the former Houston Texans standout was unable to make a substantial impact during his brief time with the franchise.

The Eagles initially signed Pierce during the offseason, expecting the former fourth-round selection to provide valuable depth behind starting running back Saquon Barkley.

However, his opportunities in Philadelphia were limited to just three appearances. Pierce finished his brief Eagles tenure with 96 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 37 carries and also contributed seven receptions for 14 yards on 11 targets.

Pierce delivered his most productive performance against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 7, finishing with 14 carries for 47 rushing yards and a touchdown in Philadelphia’s loss. However, his outing ended prematurely after he suffered an injury during the fourth quarter of the game, eventually forcing the Eagles to place him on injured reserve.

Now, Philadelphia’s decision to reach an injury settlement provides Pierce with an opportunity to pursue a fresh start elsewhere in the league. Rather than remaining on the Eagles’ injured reserve list, the veteran is now free to explore potential opportunities with other teams.
