Eagles Sign CB Kenny Moore From Practice Squad

The Lions had shown interest in Moore before his move to the Eagles’ P-squad, which came September 22. Though, Moore had been readily available for teams for more than four months. The Colts released their longtime slot cover man after the draft. Moore, 31, aimed to join a contender and latched on with the Eagles. He is set to offer Vic Fangio’s unit more flexibility.

Although the Patriots signed Moore as a UDFA in 2017, he has only suited up for the Colts. The proven inside CB caught on with Indianapolis as a waiver claim in GM Chris Ballard’s first offseason in charge, later signing second and third contracts with the team. The Colts bailed on the final season of Moore’s three-year, $30MM contract in May. Moore’s lone Pro Bowl accolade came in 2021, but this signing bumps Philly’s Pro Bowl CB count to three (along with Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean).

The sides had agreed on a deal worth up to $3MM, one he will be tied to after the short practice squad stay. Moore joins Jonathan Jones as 30-something CBs with extensive pasts as AFC slot stoppers. Jones has ventured to more of a boundary role in recent years, but he played in the slot for much of his time in New England. Jones and Moore are reunited nearly a decade after both players saw slot reps in Patriots camp.

Fangio had spoken of DeJean seeing more safety time this season, and the All-Pro slot has logged 60 snaps in the box and 22 at free safety (per Pro Football Focus). The All-Pro slot player has still manned his best position more often (111 snaps). Moore’s arrival could affect DeJean’s slot usage, as the Colts relied on Moore for inside coverage throughout his Indiana stay.

Moore has more than 4,600 snaps logged in the slot. Moore only has 57 career snaps as a deep safety, though PFF credits him with 927 in the box. Some safety work is believed to be in the Eagles’ plans as well, and fans will soon see Moore in a different uniform.
