Just before the Philadelphia Eagles' 2024 playoff run that ended with a dominant Super Bowl win, there was a surprising change made to the 53-man roster.
Britain Covey, predominately a kick return specialist, had mysteriously vanished from the roster ... and fans are still left without a clear reason why.
Most of the skepticism from last year's inactivity can be traced back to Covey's lingering neck/shoulder injury that plagued the second half of his season. He also dealt with a broken collar bone earlier in the year.
Covey was limited to just five games played in 2024.
Once Covey was placed on IR, Philly put in Cooper DeJean to return kicks, and he flashed excellent potential having had experience as a returner in college.
Fans' wonders about Covey's future in Philadelphia won't have to last any longer as the 28 year old has signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Rams.
Earlier in his Eagles career, the un-drafted Utah product had turned into a fan favorite - notably thanks to leading the league in return yards in a stellar 2023 with 417.
This weekend, Covey posted a photo on Instagram thanking the city of Philadelphia after spending his first three seasons in the NFL with the Eagles.
If the end-of-season messiness wasn't any indication of Covey's likely departure this offseason, those rumors grew once the Eagles signed veteran return man Avery Williams as a potential - and now likely - replacement.
In his three seasons, Covey returned 68 punts for 771 yards (11.3 yards per attempt).
