Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman puts a whole new meaning to the phrase "burning the midnight oil" as he worked late on a deal.
According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Eagles have executed a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders. Philly acquires cornerback Jakorian Bennett while the Raiders receive defensive tackles Thomas Booker IV.

Bennett is entering his third season in the NFL after being a fourth-round pick of the Raiders in 2023. He has racked up 58 tackles and 11 pass deflections in 24 games with 11 starts. Bennett had a stellar season in coverage last year, allowing a completion percentage of 52.3% and a passer rating of 67.7.
Booker's trade actually makes a ton of sense, as he was notably left off the unofficial depth chart that was released early Monday afternoon. The defensive line was deep for Philly, so Booker didn't have a great shot at making the roster.
As for the secondary, it certainly complicates things a bit, as there is a ton of talent there right now. Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean are the stars at cornerback, but Kelee Ringo and Adoree' Jackson are battling for the CB2 job. Eli Ricks has had a nice camp, so where does Bennett fit into all of this?
Coming in later into training camp and just a few days before their Thursday preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals will leave Bennett at a disadvantage right away. He may be fighting for a CB4 or CB5 job to barely make the 53-man roster.
His coverage skills were a drastic improvement from last year and could end up being a nice backup for the Eagles, mostly helping on special teams. Guys like Parry Nickerson and Tariq Castro-Fields are more than likely on the hot seat and must perform well in preseason this week to save their jobs.
Roseman is sending a clear message to the cornerbacks that he is continuing to look for young talent ready to take their jobs. The cornerback position is about to get a lot more attention in Philly.
