This offseason for the Philadelphia Eagles didn't match the level of moves made in previous years, but an already talented roster helped with that.
The Eagles executed two trades to acquire former Houston Texans offensive guard Kenyon Green and former Cleveland Browns quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Even their free agent signings weren't like the Saquon Barkley move last offseason, with all their new signings on one-year contracts.
Philadelphia's 2025 NFL Draft provided much more excitement with first-round linebacker Jihaad Campbell and second-round safety Andrew Mukuba giving the team a bright future.
In quite some time, March saw the biggest departure of players for the Eagles as they lost Milton Williams, Josh Sweat, Isaiah Rodgers, Oren Burks, and Mekhi Becton to free agency. Fan favorites like C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Darius Slay, and James Bradberry were either released or traded.
Philadelphia's youth movement is in full force with a 2025 roster. How does this group of players compare to the ones their division rivals have put together?
Sports Illustrated staff writer Gilberto Manzano ranked the best rosters in the NFC East. Unsurprisingly, the Eagles rule supreme at number one despite all the losses. Manzano credits Eagles general manager Howie Roseman's work in previous years as the major contributing factor.
"The Eagles retaining the No. 1 spot is a testament to the depth GM Howie Roseman has built throughout the roster over the years. The three other NFC East teams gained plenty of talent while the defending Super Bowl champions were forced to part with several key starters this offseason to maintain cap space flexibility."
Since 2021, the Eagles have seen 10 selected players become full-time starters and contribute to their Super Bowl run. Four more drafted players in that span should see more playing time or starting on the field this year, with Sydney Brown, Tyler Steen, Moro Ojomo, and Jalyx Hunt. Watch out for Campbell and Mukuba to be in the running to start or be rotational players from this year's draft.
Philadelphia's offense won't see much change to the starting lineup compared to last year, with the right guard position up for grabs. There's so much talent on the NFL's eighth-best offense and number two running game, with Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Lane Johnson, and more.
The top-ranked defense will have the most drastic makeover in the secondary and defensive line, making shifts. They can lean on returning guys like Quinyon Mitchell, Reed Blankenship, Cooper DeJean, Nolan Smith Jr., Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter, and Zach Baun to lead the charge.
Edge rusher Azeez Ojulari, linebacker Joshua Uche, and cornerback Adoree Jackson are new Eagles' defensive signings that could impact this season. They all signed one-year deals and must prove themselves before landing longer contracts with the Eagles.
As much as the Washington Commanders, the Dallas Cowboys, and the New York Giants made improvements on their rosters this offseason, it doesn't compare to the future that the Eagles' roster has with Super Bowl on the eyes for years.
