Before the 2024 season even started, Philadelphia Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson admit that his NFL career is nearing the end.
Johnson, a six-time Pro Bowler, told reporters in August that he could probably play in the NFL until he's 40. However, he has a family to look after. He can't just keep playing until he finally breaks down, and we can't dismiss the physical toll this sport has taken on his body. On the other hand, he has so much admiration for his teammates in Philadelphia.
"It’s hard to step away from something you love and something that you’ve done for so long," Johnson said. "I grew up as an only child, so this is really the only brothers that I’ve had, being a part of a team."
With the Eagles back in the Super Bowl, Johnson has decided to get out in front of all the rumors and announce his plans for the 2025 season.
On Saturday afternoon, Johnson confirmed that he will suit up for the Eagles next season.
"I’m definitely not retiring after this game, win or lose," Johnson told reporters. "I'm definitely playing next year."
Johnson's future in the NFL past 2025 is a mystery for now. He claims it'll be a year-to-year decision.
Eagles fans have to be ecstatic about Johnson returning for the 2025 season. The former first-round pick has been one of the main leaders on this team for so many years.
Once Johnson officially hangs up his cleats, he can start working on his Hall of Fame speech. There's no question a spot in Canton is waiting for him.
For now, Johnson is focused on winning another Super Bowl with the Eagles.
