As Week 6 of the NFL season rolls on, there may be no team in the league that has dealt with more injuries than the Philadelphia Eagles. The team is particularly lacking on offense, with quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Saquon Barkley out with injury.
During the team’s 25-14 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, Dameon Pierce was the only running back to carry the ball. He finished with 12 carries for 35 yards and a touchdown.
In some good news, it was speculated by ESPN insiders Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter on Saturday that Barkley could play in Week 7. He has now missed back-to-back games with a hamstring injury.
However, the team did lose another RB early against Carolina. Carson Steele (elevated from the practice squad prior to Week 5) suffered a shoulder injury in the first half. There is not much more information known about it at this time.

Steele had previously appeared with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2024, averaging 3.3 yards per carry in limited action. He was playing exclusively with the Eagles’ special teams units during Weeks 5 and 6 this year.
The Eagles and Barkley will get an extra day of rest this week, as they host the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football. If the RB can play in that game, that will be huge for a team with a backup QB.
This season, Barkley has taken the ball 36 times and gained 182 yards on the ground. He could not get into the endzone across three full games and a partial fourth.
After his 2,000-yard rushing season in 2024, the 29-year-old has visibly regressed in the two seasons since. Barkley had the injury occur on Oct. 4, so perhaps a rest time of 22 days between games could get him right.
