Eagles TE Dallas Goedert looks to help himself against Vikings

Philadelphia has four tight ends on their roster, but none caught a pass Sunday. Dallas Goedert had just one target. That should change when the Eagles host the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday Night Football.

It’s hard to say why the team didn't look Goedert’s way when the team faced the New England Patriots on Sunday, but head coach Nick Sirianni knows it can’t happen again.

“We can’t go (into) a game without getting him the football.” Sirianni told reporters after the game, “He’s too good of a playmaker, but there are some things that the Patriots did that made it difficult for us to be able to get him some quick, easy touches.”

Quarterback Jalen Hurts also understands the need to find Goedert on Thursday night. After reminding Hurts that wide receiver DeVonta Smith had no catches in last year’s opener against Detroit, reporters asked Hurts if he speaks with players after those types of games to let them know their time is coming. “They know,” Hurts said.

Goedert was the team’s third-leading receiver last season behind Smith and A.J. Brown. He caught 55 passes for 702 yards despite missing five games with injury. The 28-year-old tight end looks to be in perfect health for Thursday’s game, but his fantasy team isn’t doing so well.

“Yeah, [fantasy owners] weren’t too happy with me.” Goedert told Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia. “They were yelling at me about stuff like that. But I don’t really care about that. I have myself on fantasy. I didn’t win, probably because of myself. Move on to next week.”

Pro Football Focus ranks Goedert as fantasy football’s seventh-best tight end in Week 2, down three spots from last week. Don't count on him to bench himself in his next fantasy matchup, but count on Philadelphia to get him the ball against the Vikings.
