Eagles to sign former Jets first-round pick Mekhi Becton

The Philadelphia Eagles are addressing their need for depth at offensive tackle outside of the draft.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Eagles are expected to sign former New York Jets first-round pick Mekhi Becton to a one-year deal $5.5 million deal

Becton will have to pass his physical first.

Schefter notes that Eagles' offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland played a role in getting Becton to Philly and their plan is to use him as their swing tackle.

That means he'll slide into rotation behind Eagles' left tackle Jordan Mailata and right tackle Lane Johnson.

Becton, 6-foot-7, 363 pounds, was initially drafted 11th overall out of Louisville by the Jets in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Unfortunately, Becton has missed out on a majority of his NFL career due to two injuries followed by surgeries on his right knee. After a strong rookie debut in 2020, he played just one game between 2021 and 2022. However, Becton does come to Philly after a healthy 2023 season where he started 16 games for the Jets.

He's also notably a few pounds lighter since he was drafted and weighs in at 350 pounds, which puts a little less stress on that banged-up knee.

He will now get a second chance to resurrect his career at Stoutland U!
