Eagles trade for 2x All-Pro Safety Kevin Byard
Peter van den Berg-USA TODAY Sports

There isn’t a better general manager in football than Howie Roseman. The Philadelphia Eagles front office leader isn’t afraid to make any deal necessary to help improve his team in both the short and long term. His latest move on Monday was just the icing on the cake.

Philadelphia agreed to terms with the Tennessee Titans for All-Pro safety Kevin Byard . The Eagles will send a 2024 fifth and sixth-round pick along with current safety Terrell Edmunds along with the deal. NFL Network was first on the news.

Byard is a two-time All-Pro safety from Middle Tennessee State and is a Philadelphia native. He has 47 tackles, and one fumble recovery in six games played this season. He has 27 career interceptions throughout his career with the Titans. He has two years left on his contract and counts for just $2 million against the Eagles cap after Tennessee paid him $7 million of his $11 million compensation allocated to him.

A great move for the Eagles!

At just 30 years old, Byard is considered a massive upgrade for the Eagles secondary. Philadelphia ranks 18th in the NFL against the pass and has struggled particularly over the middle of the field. Byard is the 15th-ranked overall safety according to Pro Football Focus and eighth in coverage. Over his last two seasons before 2023, Byard has 9 interceptions and 196 tackles. He has also started every game since 2017 and has never missed a game at all. The Titans’ Ironman would be the perfect compliment for the Eagles in their secondary. With Reed Blankenship dealing with a myriad of injuries, the Eagles have upgraded to an important position.

Coming off an impressive 31-17 win over the then-one-loss Dolphins, the Eagles had separated themselves as one of the true contenders in the NFL.

Roseman’s latest move will certainly elevate them even further.
