Eagles undrafted rookie is forcing his name into the conversation early at camp

Philadelphia Eagles rookies like Jihaad Campbell and Andrew Mukuba have been getting all the attention at training camp. There's an undrafted rookie making a strong argument to have people watching out for him in the preseason.

Former Tarleton State wide receiver Darius Cooper is coming off a great training camp practice on Sunday that is grabbing the Eagles media's attention. Bleeding Green Nation Eagles reporter Brandon Lee Gowton shared his observations from what Cooper did at practice and where he stands on the roster.

"On Sunday, Cooper beat Ricks to make an over-the-shoulder catch down the right sideline. He made some other catches and also showed some juice on a kick return. As it currently stands, I don’t think Cooper makes the roster. But it’ll be interesting to watch him in the preseason. He’s at least done enough to warrant a practice squad spot."

Could Cooper do the impossible and make the roster?

Cooper was a standout in college last year at Tarleton State, finishing the season with 76 receptions for 1,450 yards and 14 touchdowns. He earned first-team FCS All-American honors.

The Eagles have a significant problem on their hands at wide receiver. They have had some stellar performances from Cooper, and Elijah Cooks has been getting a ton of attention. This is due to DeVonta Smith missing half of camp with an injury, and A.J. Brown did not practice on Sunday with his own injury.

Philly's younger guys are getting more attention, with Cooper being one of them. Cooper fits the role of slot receiver the best with his 6-foot, 190-pound frame, but he does have excellent route running skills and can be a big playmaker for the Eagles in preseason.

It will still be very difficult for Cooper to make the final 53-man roster, as he is competing with Cooks, Terrace Marshall Jr., Johnny Wilson, and Ainias Smith for spots. Gowton is correct in his assessment that Cooper feels more like a perfect practice squad option for the Eagles in 2025.

The Eagles might have to be careful with Cooper being on the practice squad though. If he keeps playing this well, some other team is going to claim him and be an impact player elsewhere.
