The Philadelphia Eagles are absolutely loaded with young talent on the roster. There's the legitimate potential that one undrafted free agent could make his way onto the 53-man roster.
Bleacher Report writer Brent Sobleski named one undrafted rookie free agent from each NFL team that has the best shot of making the final roster. For the Eagles, Sobleski likes former Rutgers offensive lineman Hollin Pierce.
"Jeff Stoutland is the best offensive line coach in the business. The Philadelphia Eagles have the best offensive line in the game. The organization and coaching staff understand how to evaluate talent and develop blockers.
So, this selection should come as no surprise considering the situation, even after the Eagles drafted three offensive linemen, including a pair of offensive tackle prospects in Myles Hinton and Cameron Williams.
The 6'8", 341-pound Hollin Pierce may follow the path set by Mekhi Becton despite starting 50 games at tackle for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. The former walk-on dropped over 100 pounds from when he entered his collegiate program. He started at both tackle spots.
The 24-year-old prospect may ultimately end up at guard, where veterans Kendall Lamm and Kenyon Green are expected to serve as backups but aren't signed beyond the upcoming season."
Of all the Eagles on the roster, Pierce has been a favorite for fans among the undrafted free agents. He was dominant in college, thanks to his six-foot-eight, 341-pound frame, which earned him a second-team All-Big Ten selection last year. In over 3,100 snaps, Pierce only committed four penalties.
The challenge with Pierce is that he's in an offensive line group that is already extremely deep. Philly drafted two offensive line this year in Myles Hinton and Cameron Williams.
Right now, Pierce is looking at being the third string left tackle with Jordan Mailata and Hinton ahead of him. There's no chance Pierce starts unless of injury as that is Mailata's job. It will also be tough for him to beat Hinton since the team used a pick on him.
The most likely scenario is Pierce becomes one of the first members of the practice squad. An injury or two could open the door for him to make the roster.
Mailata didn't play his first two seasons in the NFL so because someone doesn't play, it doesn't mean they won't. Pierce has a great chance of following the same path that Mailata took to start his NFL career.
