Eagles upgrade secondary with speedy CB in latest mock draft
Clemson won 16-7. Ken Ruinard-USA TODAY Sports

Another week means another mock draft.

In A to Z Sports' latest 2024 NFL mock draft, the Philadelphia Eagles bolstered their secondary in the first round by selecting Clemson cornerback Nate Wiggins at No. 22 overall.

A to Z Sports cites Wiggins' speed, overall size, and versatile ability to play in zone and man coverage scenarios as reasons why he's worth a first-round pick:

"The Eagles’ pass defense ranked among the worst last season. They did some bolstering in free agency by signing a familiar face in C.J. Gardner Johnson and a highly-touted depth piece in Tyler Hall, but they still need a young and talented playmaker to round out the group. That’s where Nate Wiggins comes in. He has the height. He has the speed. And the versatile coverage skills where he can come to Philly and make an immediate impact."

Wiggins, 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, shocked the world with his speed at last month's NFL combine, posting a 4.28 40-yard dash.

That time would have been the fastest if wide receiver Xavier Worthy hadn't run a 4.21.

In three seasons at Clemson, Wiggins logged 60 total tackles, 21 passes defended and three interceptions.

He's considered the second-best cornerback in this year's draft class.

The Eagles could use a young corner with Wiggins' elite speed in their secondary but there's a chance they pass on him due to their draft history.

Philly hasn't drafted a corner in the first round since 2002 and general manager Howie Roseman is known for focusing on the trenches and the receiving room.
