Training camp is a little over a month away and the Philadelphia Eagles seem to have almost everything in order before the regular season. Key word being "almost.'
This offseason was one of transition for the Eagles, as they welcomed a new play caller on offense and needed to replace key positions vacated by players who had left in free agency or retirement. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman wasn't as active as fans in Philly have seen in the past, as he is relying more on his young talent on the roster to carry them in 2025.
As the new year begins, the Eagles still have some questions they need to address. At the very least, what the media believes are issues within the organization that need to be addressed before they kick off their season against the Dallas Cowboys.
Bleacher Report writer Kristopher Knox made a list of three things each team needs to do the rest of the offseason to get better or address before the season. Here are Knox's three things for the Eagles and his explanation for them:
"Philly's biggest priority should be adapting to the departure of offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. Two years ago, the Eagles lost their offensive and defensive coordinators in the same offseason and struggled to maintain continuity. Last offseason they hired Moore and defensive coordinator Vic Fangio and went on a championship run.
With Moore gone, former passing game coordinator Kevin Patullo has taken the reins of the offense. He'll be the fourth different offensive coordinator in five seasons under head coach Nick Sirianni, which means the Eagles have grown accustomed to change.
Sirianni and Patullo must enter camp with a plan for fully implementing the offense quickly. The Eagles are going to get everyone's best shot in 2025, and they can't afford a slow start to the regular season.
The Eagles also need to map out their competition at right guard. The rest of the O-line is set, but Philly lost 2024 starter Mekhi Becton in free agency. The top candidates to replace him are 2023 third-round pick Tyler Steen, 2022 first-round pick Kenyon Green and free-agent addition Matt Pryor.
Defensively, general manager Howie Roseman should have an eye out for pass-rushing help. The Eagles did sign Josh Uche and Azeez Ojulari in free agency, but they also lost Josh Sweat and recently traded Bryce Huff to the San Francisco 49ers. They also lost Brandon Graham to retirement this offseason.
Philadelphia's new-look pass-rushing rotation should be more than functional, but adding a player like Von Miller or Preston Smith couldn't hurt."
There isn't much belief in Patullo. People are still scared of Brian Johnson, and yes, Eagles fans understand that part. What isn't understood is that this isn't the same situation as two years ago, as Patullo has been significantly more involved in game planning and the plays they will call, as opposed to Johnson going in blind in 2023. The concerns with Patullo are valid, but responses to concerns should ease everyone's minds.
The national media isn't aware that Green is far from being in the running at right guard, In fact, he was taking third team reps at left guard during minicamp. Steen appears to be the front runner for the right guard job and it would take a massive preseason by Pryor to win the job.
What Knox fails to mention when discussing the edge rushers is that the Eagles don't have to rush to sign one. Jalyx Hunt has been capturing the attention of everyone. He appears to be in line to start alongside Nolan Smith Jr. Hunt possesses all the capabilities that Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio looks for in his defenders: speed and versatility
This "to-do" list the Eagles have isn't a concern the team has at the moment. The team could look into another safety, or if they can acquire another defender in a trade that would come at a lower cost, Roseman could make the call.
Otherwise, the Eagles are cruising into training camp with not many issues to deal with, which is a nice surprise to have.
