The Philadelphia Eagles had one of, if not the best defense in the entire NFL last season, which was one of the main factors in them winning the Super Bowl. But due to salary cap issues, they could not keep all of those players.
But despite that fact, Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said on a recent episode of Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro’s podcast that he still trusts general manager Howie Roseman.
"In Howie we trust," Fangio said. "This is his time of the year. He realizes we lost five starters on defense and two of the top backups that we had for those guys, so we need to get better... It’s just part of the way it goes. I would have loved to keep all those guys, but in the NFL the salary cap is real."
The Eagles have lost a few of their starters, including defensive end Josh Sweat, cornerback Darius Slay, safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, defensive end Brandon Graham, as well as a few others for various reasons.
With that being said, the Eagles drafted a couple of corners in the 2024 NFL Draft in Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. The team also signed former first-round pick Adoree' Jackson back in March, so the team is making moves to fill the holes left by some of their departures.
If the Eagles want to defend their Super Bowl title and go back-to-back, signing some defensive players in free agency and drafting some in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft could be in the team's best interests.
