Eagles waive receiver ahead of NFL season

The Philadelphia Eagles waived wide receiver Samori Toure on Saturday as the team begins its final roster cutdown ahead of the 2026 NFL season. Philadelphia must reduce their roster to 53 players by 6 p.m. Sunday, with Toure now subject to the waiver process through Monday.

Toure joined the Eagles on June 1, 2026, but his bid for a roster spot ended before the team’s 53-man deadline. The 28-year-old receiver faced competition from DeVonta Smith, first-round rookie Makai Lemon, Dontayvion Wicks, Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore, who occupied prominent positions in Philadelphia’s receiving group.

Originally selected by the Green Bay Packers in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft with the 258th overall pick, Toure made Green Bay’s initial 53-man roster as a rookie. He was inactive for the first six games before making his NFL debut in Week 7 against the Washington Commanders, catching one pass for four yards. The following week, he recorded his first NFL touchdown on a 37-yard reception from Aaron Rodgers against the Buffalo Bills.

Across 22 regular-season games with the Packers, Toure recorded 13 receptions for 160 yards and one touchdown. He was placed on injured reserve on January 1, 2024, and was released by Green Bay on August 27 of that year.

Toure subsequently spent time with the Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos and New Orleans Saints. Chicago initially added him to its practice squad before signing him to a reserve/future contract, while Denver and New Orleans also used him on their practice squads. With the Saints in 2025, he appeared in one game and caught one pass for three yards.

If Toure clears waivers, he will become a free agent and can sign with another team’s 53-man roster or practice squad. He also made several plays during the Eagles’ training camp, making him a potential practice squad candidate.
