Look, no one in Philly is feeling particularly good about the Philadelphia Eagles' awful 34-17 loss to the New York Giants to open Week 6, but the start of the work week will feel at least a little better because of the Dallas Cowboys.
The Cowboys traveled on the road to take on the Carolina Panthers, where they were favored to win. Dallas did not play as well as the team had hoped, as they were gashed by their former running back Rico Dowdle, who gained 183 rushing yards and an additional 56 receiving yards with a touchdown.
Carolina closed out the game with a six-minute and seven-second drive on 15 plays with two third downs and one fourth down conversion. It all ended with a beautiful 33-yard field goal by Ryan Fitzgerald to give the Panthers the 30-27 upset win over the Cowboys.
This was a significant result for the Eagles, as they maintain their position in first place in the NFC East with a record of 4-2. If there was any reason for a tie between the Eagles and Cowboys in the division, the advantage goes to the Eagles for the head-to-head after beating them in Week 1.
That loss to the Panthers put the Cowboys at 2-3-1. They are lucky to have gotten that tie against the Green Bay Packers, as it keeps them ahead of the Giants, but Dallas owns the tiebreaker with New York after already beating them this season.
Philly's only concern in the NFC East right now is the Washington Commanders, who close out Week 6 NFL action against the Chicago Bears. It's a game the Eagles could use some help from the Windy City. A Commanders win puts the Eagles in a rough spot in the division, with Washington taking the lead.
Eagles fans can be relieved that the Cowboys will join them in the losing column and hope the Commanders will do the same.
