The Philadelphia Eagles' roster is starting to clearer and clearer by the day on who will make the roster.
While the tight end room is now all but decided, John Metchie III's addition certainly adds another wrinkle to an already deep wide receiver room. The Eagles still have some significant decisions to make there, as well as other key positions like running back and cornerback.
Who is going to make the final cut to the 53-man roster when all is said and done?
Quarterback (3): Jalen Hurts, Tanner McKee, Kyle McCord
Hurts and McKee continue to be locks as QB1 and QB2. McCord and Dorian Thompson-Robinson battle it out for the final roster spot at quarterback, with neither guy playing well against the Cleveland Browns. McCord was able to move the ball decently and threw a touchdown, so he gets the slight edge in the position battle.
Running Back (3): Saquon Barkley, Will Shipley, A.J. Dillon
Montrell Johnson Jr. had some nice moments in the preseason game against the Browns and could make an argument as RB4. It still seems like the top three backs are locks and with other positions being so deep, there might not be room for four backs on the roster.
Wide Receiver (6): A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Jahan Dotson, Ainias Smith, Johnny Wilson, John Metchie III
As much as every Eagles fan wants to see Darius Cooper on the 53-man roster, as he has outperformed Ainias Smith in the preseason, Metchie complicates things. Ultimately, Smith's impact as a return could save him a job, but a lot can happen in the next week to change this.
Tight End (3): Dallas Goedert, Grant Calcaterra, Kylen Granson
Harrison Bryant is out of the picture at TE3, which leaves Granson as the favorite. E.J. Jenkins might be able to push him, but it might be too late for that.
Offensive Line (9): Jordan Mailata, Landon Dickerson, Cam Jurgens, Tyler Steen, Lane Johnson, Myles Hinton, Brett Toth, Matt Pryor, Kendall Lamm
Toth is showing off his versatility on the line and with his recent play at left guard replacing Dickerson, he has pretty much secured his place. That would leave rookie Drew Kendall on the outside as a likely candidate for the practice squad.
Defensive Line (5): Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Moro Ojomo, Ty Robinson, Gabe Hall
No major changes on the defensive line. Robinson and Hall are taking advantage of their playing time in preseason and proving themselves worthy of roster spots and to be in the rotation.
Edge Rushers (5): Nolan Smith Jr., Jalyx Hunt, Azeez Ojulari, Josh Uche, Antwaun Powell-Ryland Jr.
Ojulari is the only question mark as to whether he stays, gets cut, or gets traded. After a quiet start to training camp, he has started to pick up steam, so for now, he'll make the roster.
Inside Linebackers (5): Zack Baun, Nakobe Dean, Jihaad Campbell, Jeremiah Trotter Jr., Smael Mondon Jr.
Campbell, Trotter, and Mondon played well against the Browns and continue to give the Eagles hope that they have the depth at lineside linebacker. If Dean returns for Week 1, don't be surprised if Campbell plays a little bit more off the edge.
Cornerback (7): Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, Kelee Ringo, Adoree' Jackson, Mac McWilliams, Eli Ricks, Jakorian Bennett
Bennett has made a convincing argument to get into the CB2 job, as he had a nice pass breakup in the Browns game. Ringo and Jackson are not exactly inspiring the fan base with their play.
Safety (4): Reed Blankenship, Sydney Brown, Andrew Mukuba, Tristin McCollum
Mukuba was the star of the weekend with his pick-six and fumble recovery that could put him in position to start. Brown and McCollum also performed well against Cleveland, with the safety position looking solid.
Special Teams (3): Jake Elliott, Braden Mann, Charley Hughlett
The special teams for the Eagles will continue to see no major changes as everyone is doing their jobs well at this point.
