Eagles WR DeVonta Smith shows he has WR1 ability after performance vs. Commanders

The offseason addition of two-time 1000+ yard receiver A.J. Brown has already made the Eagles' offense more dynamic. Brown is Philadelphia's leading receiver (309 yards), but teammate DeVonta "Slim Reaper" Smith is also off to an impressive start despite getting shut out in Week 1.

In a Week 3 victory over the Commanders, Smith had 169 yards receiving and a touchdown. He led the Eagles in targets (12) and had the Eagles' longest catch (45 yards). Overall, he has 15 catches for 249 yards.

Smith's showing against Washington ranked among the best by a wide receiver in Eagles history. The yardage was the most by an Eagle since Jeremy Maclin in 2014. Brown and Smith are also the first pair of Eagles receivers to tally 249+ yards each through the first three games.

Last season Smith, the former 10th overall pick, set a franchise rookie record for receiving yards with 916.

These numbers stack up against the best in the NFL this season. Brown and Smith rank in the top 11 in the NFL for receiving yards. They are among the chief reasons Philadelphia ranks third in the NFL in passing yards.

QB Jalen Hurts has flourished with the added weapons.

Smith seems to be finding his role within the offense. His production has increased in back-to-back weeks following the shocking Week 1 performance.
