Eagles WR Quez Watkins drops profanity over latest signing

Philly fans are never shy and they’ve certainly had a lot to say in Watkins three years with the team. Never more so than in the third quarter of Super Bowl LVII when Watkins let a deep ball go right through his hands. Many saw the drop as a turning point in the game and now Watkins feels the fans are turning on him. In three years with the team, Watkins has 83 catches for 1,107 yards and five scores.

 His three touchdowns last year were a career-high but everyone expected more than the 33 receptions and 354 yards he put up in 2022. To be fair, the arrival of A.J. Brown killed any hopes Watkins had of being a No. 1 or 2 receiver last year, but his numbers could’ve been better. During a Thursday press conference, head coach Nick Sirianni spoke about the depth of the wide receiver position and Watkins’ lack of opportunity, but made it clear that Watkins would be competing for the No. 3 role. “Quez is our No. 3 receiver. There will be competition for it just like there was when Zach [Pascal] was here for different roles within that. But we’re excited about Quez. I’m really excited with our new addition.” The new addition (Zaccheaus) is coming off the best year of his career with 40 catches for 533 yards and three touchdowns for the Falcons last year. More importantly, he didn’t drop a pass. Watkins had three drops last season, not counting his costly Super Bowl gaffe. It will be interesting to see how Watkins reacts to the inevitable blow-back he’ll receive from Eagle’s fans. Challenging the fan base rarely works out for a player, especially in a town like Philly.
