The Wichita Thunder have named Travis Clayton as the 15th head coach in franchise history. Clayton spent the last two seasons as an assistant with Wichita. A new assistant coach has not yet been announced. This begins a new era in Wichita after Bruce Ramsay and the Thunder mutually parted ways back in April. For Clayton, this will be his first head coaching opportunity at the pro level. He previously spent two seasons as a Head Coach in the AJHL, where he also held the GM title from 2017-2019 with the Lloydminster Bobcats. Clayton also served as an assistant with the Whitecourt Wolves during the 2021-22 season before joining the Thunder.

The Paradise Hill, Saskatchewan, native spent the majority of his career playing for the Thunder during their CHL days. Over the course of his seven seasons with Wichita, he put up 327 goals and 508 assists for 835 points in 696 games. All of his offensive numbers are either first or second in Thunder history. He would add 27 goals and 20 assists for 47 points in 57 playoff games and won a Championship with Wichita in 2011. Clayton is one of five players to have his number retired by the Thunder.

Clayton finished his career with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, where he had 55 goals and 93 assists for 148 points in 184 games. He would add 15 goals and 19 assists for 34 points in 39 playoff games with the Mudbugs. He also broke the record for games played, which was held by Joe Burton.
