Eichenberg & Waller on PUP, Melifonwu on Non-Injury List; Dolphins sign Vet Center/Guard
The first day of training camp is in the books, and the Miami Dolphins made some roster moves.
Backup center Liam Eichenberg and tight end Darren Waller were placed on the PUP list, and potential starting safety Ifeatu Melifonwu was placed on the Non-Football Injury list. They will not be able to participate in practice until they are removed from the PUP list.
To fill the void of not having Eichenberg practice, Miami signed veteran center/guard Daniel Brunskill.
Brunskill is 31 years old and went undrafted in 2017. He has previously played for the Atlanta Falcons, Tennessee Titans, and San Francisco 49ers.
He has played in 92 games, starting 66 of them, and he has actually had some snaps in games at offensive tackle as well and offers valuable position flexibility.
In 2023 he played in and started 14 games for the Titans. Last year he started 10 games for the Titans as well.
His PFF numbers were sub 55 in overall grade, pass block grade, and run block grade last season.
He was only called for three penalties in 684 snaps though.
In Miami, Brunskill will have a good chance to stick around and win a backup job, especially if Liam is out for an extended period of time. Miami’s depth at both center and guard is razor thin, and any experienced backup would be a huge help.
There is no word on why Melifonwu and Eichenberg aren’t ready for the start of camp.
The Dolphins’ re-signing Eichenberg this past offseason was a shock to many in the media and fans of the team, as his first four seasons in Miami didn’t go well, to put it nicely. If he misses a significant portion of training camp, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him as someone who is let go by the team.
