The New York Giants are reportedly looking into selling a 10% stake of franchise per majority owners, the Mara and Tisch families.

This potential sale would be geared towards private equity investors, which follows last summer's structure approval by the NFL for private equity deals.

“The Mara and Tisch families have retained Moelis & Company to explore the potential sale of a minority, non-controlling stake in the New York Giants,” the team said in a statement. “There will be no further comment in regard to the process.”

Despite posting a 3-14 record and missing the playoffs for the second consecutive season, the Giants are inline to receive a record-breaking valuation for a sports franchise. Although the Giants are projected to carry an estimated worth of $7.3 billion via reports, the pending deal should clear that by considerable measures.

But the regardless of the Giants' inconsistencies on the field, they play in America's No. 1 media market and own a fabled 100-year history that includes four Super Bowl titles.

Former quarterback and franchise great Eli Manning has expressed interest in becoming a part of the Giants ownership group.

“It’s definitely something of interest,” Manning said during an interview on CNBC Sport.

He had doubts that an opportunity to strike would present itself, until now.

Manning, now involved in the Giants’ business operations and fan engagement, has not commented since news of the team's potential stake sale. His success with ventures like ESPN's "ManningCast" could position him to join a group pursuing the minority stake.

“There’s probably only one team I’d be interested in pursuing and it’s the one I played for for 16 years," Manning said. "And it’s local and makes the most sense, but we’ve just got to figure out if they would ever sell a little bit.”
