Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Emeka Egbuka has found himself at the center of an unusual social media controversy.

Earlier this week, NFL fans noticed a disturbing post from an account on X that apparently belonged to Egbuka. The tweet that was going viral said: "Is CTE even real?" It caused so much commotion that an official statement was released by the Buccaneers.

“The below account is neither owned nor operated by Emeka Egbuka,” the team said. “It is in no way affiliated with Emeka or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.”

After the Buccaneers posted that statement on Wednesday, fans noticed the team's social media account tagged this Egbuka imposter multiple times during the season. That discovery made this situation even more confusing than it already was.

Luckily for NFL fans, Egbuka squashed all the rumors this week. He let his fans know that he doesn't have an X account.

"For anyone wondering, I haven’t had twitter since high school," Egbuka wrote on his Instagram Story. "That account on X isn’t me."

That should put an end to this really bizarre situation.

The Buccaneers have high hopes for Emeka Egbuka.

Egbuka had 63 receptions for 938 yards and six touchdowns as a rookie despite his rough finish to the regular season.

With Mike Evans no longer on Tampa Bay's roster, the Buccaneers will need Egbuka to step up in a major way this fall. If he can take that next step in his development, he could potentially earn Pro Bowl honors.

The Buccaneers are currently the odds-on favorites (+165) to win the NFC South.
