Making an impact during training camp isn't always the easiest thing in the world, especially when you are on Brian Flores' defense with the Minnesota Vikings. It's one of the best defenses in the National Football League, but the one area where you can stand out is at cornerback.
There have been a lot of questions about the cornerback group, but the success of Isaiah Rodgers and Jeff Okudah at the start of training camp has eased those concerns. One player who has also stood out in a major way is Dwight McGlothern.
Not only has the 2024 UDFA, who was top 200 on the consensus board, been standing out, he's been consistent, including three-consecutive practices with interceptions this past week. Flores talked about McGlothern's training camp, with consistency being the key.
"I think Dwight's playing well. He certainly has a knack for the football, which you know is a very, very positive thing for him," said Flores. "He's been better with his techniques, his fundamentals, his communication, even on the sideline, he's yelling stuff out. So he's been very good, and again, continuing to build. And this is about consistency. I tell those guys all the time, you know, carving out a career, or we're all for yourselves, about consistency. And he's starting to become more consistent. And that's, that's, that's what we've been harping him with. I know DJ (defensive backs coach Daronte Jones) and Hutch (safeties coach Michael Hutchings), those guys spend a lot of time with him in meetings, or walk-through, really all the guys. But you know, he's been consistent, consistently making plays. And you know, if we could just continue to do that specifically with the little things, whether it's, you know, leverage here, or alignment here, or what he's doing, he's doing that very well. We'll just continue to see that improvement."

McGlothern's training camp has stood out in a big way, with the majority of his reps coming with the second team. However, continuing to stack good days is going to be massive for him, potentially making the team for two-consecutive seasons.
There is going to be a huge opportunity for McGlothern in both joint practices and also the preseason games he is likely to play. Playing well is going to go a long way, as well as him potentially not playing that much, which could be a sign that the Vikings view him that highly.
If McGlothern keeps this up, the Vikings will have another success story.
