Emmanuel Ogbah is worth a look if Cowboys lose key defenders

With the Cowboys possibly losing Dante Fowler, Neville Gallimore, and maybe Johnathan Hankins, giving him a chance would not be a bad option.

Ogbah played in the 2020 Super Bowl as a member of the Cheifs. He only started a handful of games but has been a solid pass rusher for several years.

Mike Zimmer said he wanted to get bigger up front, and that is exactly what Ogbah would do for them. He has 42,5 sacks since being picked in the second round in 2016.

With Zimmer taking over in Big D, Cowboys vice president of player personnel, Will McClay, is out to find playmakers who fit the new defense in 2024.

“As we begin this process, it's a little different scheme,”

McClay recently told the team's official website. “We're looking for big, athletic football players. Finding guys that have those little nuances that [Zimmer] has. It's been great for us to spend time with the coaches and hear them talk to players and communicate so we can get a better feel for what that is as well.”

He is more of a defensive end than a tackle, but still, he has been a winner in his eight years, and with Miami having Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips, combined with injury, he saw his snaps take a hit last year.

This Won't Fix The Issue

Even if the Cowboys get Ogbah on a team-friendly deal, this is not going to solve the issue.

I think adding Mike Zimmer as the new defensive coordinator will help more than anything.

Dan Quinn was great and all, but that was his problem. He was never able to solve the issue of stuffing the run.

Zimmer has run a 4-3 defense for the majority of his career but was the defense coordinator under Bill Parcells and ran a 3-4 scheme, so he has shown versatility.

Zimmer had proven over the years that his defense works and Dallas has more talent than any of his teams he had when he was the Vikings head coach.

The Vikings' defense was top-12 in points allowed in each of Zimmer's first six seasons with the team, including a top-five finish in 2015, '17, and '19.

I am not sure who they plan to use their first round pick on yet. It should either be offensive or defensive line. Just please don't use it on a linebacker.

They will look to add some offensive playmakers in the later rounds. Trey Benson, the running back from Florida state is someone to keep an eye on. Notre Dame running back Audric Estime is another.

With the increase in the salary cap, Dallas will have some room to mess with a few things, but the only pending free agents I would want back are Hankins, and Stephon Gilmore.

I would let the others walk and look to add other players for cheaper. Hankins and Gilmore are the only two that can bring high enough production that it is worth keeping around.

We all know how the Jones's are though, they love to blow smoke, so until we see them make some moves, I don't see it happening.
