Emmitt Addresses Ugly Truths About Cowboys vs. Eagles Rivalry

FRISCO - Yes, yes, the Philadelphia Eagles continue to soar with Super Bowl success, including two Big Game victories in the past eight seasons.

And yes, yes, Jerry Jones' Dallas Cowboys are mired in a 29-year drought when it comes to even getting to the NFC conference title game.

So ... frustration is mounting in Dallas, particularly from one of the team's and the league' all-time greats.

“I’m sick of it,” Emmitt Smith said recently. “We have allowed others to nitpick at the star [logo] and make fun of the star ... Now all of a sudden over the last 20 years, [the Eagles] win two Super Bowls and they think they’re the best thing on the planet, and everywhere I go I hear, ‘Go Birds.’ I’m sick of hearing ‘Go Birds.’

"I’m always asking where are you going? You still got a long way to go to catch us.”

Cowboys legend Smith, the NFL’s all-time leading rusher and three-time Super Bowl champion, expressed his growing irritation with the Eagles’ dominance and their vocal fan base during an interview on Dallas sports radio station 96.7 FM The Ticket.

Emmitt's sarcasm aside - the Eagles aren't "going anywhere'' - his frustration stems from the direction of the two franchises in recent times.

The Eagles have made the playoffs seven times in the last eight seasons, have appeared in three Super Bowls in the last decade and have those two Lombardi Trophies.

And Cowboys? They have experienced what Smith calls “a crying shame” of a drought.

Dallas does just fine in head-to-head meetings with the Eagles. But ...

Dallas is stalled on the longest active conference title game drought in the NFC by a full 15 years. Since their last Super Bowl victory in 1996, the Cowboys have managed just five playoff wins. For perspective, the Eagles won four postseason games in this past season alone.

“That part bugs me,” Smith admitted. “It bugs me because in my heart, I truly believe our organization should be contending for an NFC championship and even a Super Bowl at least once or twice every decade, because every team recycles every decade.

"For us not to be there for over the last 30 years is a crying shame.”

Smith, who earned eight Pro Bowl selections and was the 1993 NFL MVP during his incredi ble career, was part of the legendary Cowboys dynasty that won three Super Bowls in four seasons (1993, 1994, 1996) alongside Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin.

As the Eagles look toward another potential championship run in 2025, Smith’s message serves as a reminder of what the Cowboys were ...

And what he wishes they could be again.
