The Dallas Cowboys' delayed start on their head coaching search resulted in the controversial hire of former offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.
After failing to come to an agreement with Mike McCarthy, the Cowboys started their coaching search a full week after every other team in search of a new head coach. In the end, the team settled on a coach already in the building - much to the dismay of a legendary Cowboys figure.
Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith didn't exactly seem thrilled with the team's decision, but reserved judgement on Schottenheimer until he gets a full chance.
"Next subject," Smith said. "I have no reaction. I just don't know what to say. I know we have to give the man a chance and I'm willing to him man a chance and the opportunity to turn things around."
"However, if we don't align our vision and commitment to that vision, I think we're going to get a lot of things that we have seen in the past. That doesn't feel good. We need a lot more than Ashton Jeanty. All of that talk about having a running back and running game, there's nothing wrong with our running game when there's a commitment to the running game."

While Smith isn't exactly surer what to make of the hire, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is on board with the move.
"Super excited for him, this opportunity," Prescott said earlier this week. "Obviously, I've worked with him for the last couple of years; understanding the type of coach is, the type of man he is, the way that he approaches the game. I think the best way to exemplify that is the son of a legendary football coach. He's not going to take anything about this game lightly. He enjoys the work in it, kind of old-fashioned. Looking forward to the grind and some things that we're gonna do and he's gonna add. Excited for him. I know he's ready for it."
After a disappointing 2024 season in which they missed the playoffs, the Cowboys are banking on a new offensive mind to lead the team.
