The Green Bay Packers are going back to their roots. Early in franchise's history, players wore navy blue jerseys as a primary option, and for a few games in 2025, the color is back. The franchise has announced a new alternate kit for the 2025 season, and it's a beautiful reference to the 1920s.

The new alternates are called the '1923 Classic' uniform. The model had been leaked on Wednesday throughout social media, but it's now official. In addition to the jerseys and pants, there will be a classic, paired with a leather-look, hand-painted helmet. The uniforms will debut at Lambeau Field during a game this fall, with the date to be announced in the coming weeks.
"This season, we return to our roots," quarterback Jordan Love said on the promo video. "Our classics, torn from the pages of time, derived from our legends of the past, engineered for our legends in the making. Designed to honor our history with one goal in mind, to make our own."
Back in 1923, the Packers were playing its fifth overall season, and third in the NFL. It's a special year, because it's the Packers' first season as a publicly owned corporation The team had a 7-2-1 record, including five wins to finish the year, and was third in the league. The Canton Bulldogs won the championship. At that time, Curly Lambeau was a player and coach. It was the first of two seasons the Packers played at the Bellevue Park.
NFL teams can wear alternate or throwback jerseys up to four times during the regular season. Teams can also wear an alternate helmet with their primary home and road jerseys, creating more uniform combination possibilities. Last season, for example, the Packers played two games with their green and gold alternate, a reference to the 1950s, and other two with their new all-whites, which included a white helmet for the first time. Teams have to change their alternates every three years at most, and that's why Green Bay had to create a new design for this season.
